Sandra Day O’Connor
(1930) Sandra Day O’Connor was the first woman appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court in 1981 and retired in 2005. She was considered a moderate conservative and served for 24 years. As a member of the country’s highest court, O’Connor was considered to be a moderate conservative who often focused on the letter of law, and voted for what she believed best fit the intentions of the U.S. Constitution.
